Gamification for Business – 2 Day Course

Introduction:

This is a 2 day course that aims to teach you the basics of gamification. Gamification has been proved to be very useful to various areas of business like Marketing, Administration, HR, Sales and more.We designed this course to help you get your foot in the door and understand how gamification works and more importantly how to design and manage gamification projects in house or in cooperation with partners. 

Overview:

By the end of this course you will know when and how to employ gamification strategies, have an understanding of what gamification can do for your business. You will also be able to build a business case for the use of gamification to get buy in from decision makers and from key players.

This course is about the theory and practice of gamification solutions for business. You will be introduced to the theory of gamification and how to apply gamification techniques to a business issue, for example, HR, Marketing or Administration.

DAY 1

SESSION 1: THE THEORY BEHIND GAMIFICATION

Gamification is about understanding why certain games mechanics are so engaging and fun and how to choose which game techniques we should be using in any given situation.

SESSION 2: GAME MECHANICS FOR YOUR GAMIFICATION TOOLKIT

Learning what elements work in games, how they are used and which are most relevant and effective for gamification. We give you a list of 26 game mechanics that you can use in your gamification projects. All with detailed examples and small case studies. Some of the game mechanics covered are:

  • Points, Badges and Leader boards
  • Onboarding (including interactive game exercise)
  • ​Aesthetics & themes
  • ​Social game elements
  • ​Narrative/Story – Curiosity/Mystery Box
  • Random Rewards, Fixed Reward Schedule

SESSION 3: GAME PROTOTYPING WORKSHOP

In order to understand gamification we need to understand how games work and our game prototyping workshop is designed to do exactly that. Participants will be organized in random teams for this workshop.

Part 1: Rules – Win State: In every game and Gamification, rules and winning states are what makes games fun and rewarding for people to play

Part 2: Game Mechanics: · The game mechanics that we use in each game determine the way players feel and behave in the game. The aame goes for Gamification.

Part 3: Prototyping:  Prototyping is a very important stage both in games and Gamification. It’s where you get a first feel of your idea.

Part 4: Play Testing:  Play Testing means Putting your Prototype in People’s Hands and Getting Feedback on what Works and What Need Improvement. It’s Very Important in every Process that Involves Creativity

SESSION 4: PLAYER TYPES – UNDERSTANDING USERS MOTIVATIONS

Understand how to profile and segment your gamification users into different player types to choose the right gamification techniques to use on each case.

DAY 2

SESSION 5: HOW TO DESIGN YOUR GAMIFICATION SOLUTION WORKSHOP

In this workshop, we will design a prototype for a specific problem each attendant has at their everyday jobs using our gamification design framework. Participants will be organized in random teams for this workshop.

Part 1: ​What do you want to do with gamification? 

 Participants will choose a problem they want to solve with gamification and set a clear goal. 

Part 2: Brainstorming

We explore what we need to keep in mind when designing gamification. 

Part 3: Prototyping

Participants get hands on and create a prototype

Part 4: Play Testing

Teams will be trying each other’s solutions — Feedback on the ideas

SESSION 6: THE GAMIFICATION+ FRAMEWORK

We have designed a framework that will help you design your own gamification projects but also manage a gamification company that you work with. This framework reveals all the details on how we design your projects at GAMIFICATION+ so you can follow the same process to successful gamification.

SESSION 7: STORYTELLING

Learn how to add storytelling to your gamification. Humans are hardwired to like stories. We have been telling stories to each other since the beginning of mankind. We have an ingrained curiosity to listen to stories till the end and learn from them. If you want to engage people for a long time the best way to do that is by adding story to your project.

SESSION 8: PITCHING YOUR GAMIFICATION PROJECT

Gamification is fairly new as a concept and when you want to get buy in for a gamification project you need to be able to pitch it to your manager or team and stakeholders. We are doing some practical exercises that will help you summarise and present what your project is all about. We work on the project you made.
